Zynga has already employed several senior leaders from its close competitor Electronic Arts. This goes on with one of its biggest hires so far in the person of Barry Cottle, Executive Vice President of EA Interactive.

Cottle is known for his many accomplishments. The biggest ones include its acquisition of social game developer Playfish, mobile developer Chillingo and casual gaming leader PopCap. These deals allowed Electronic Arts to easily get the top spots in the new market and directly compete with Zynga.

As the new business and corporate development EVP, Cottle will be John Schappert's direct report, Zynga's CEO and previously that of EA. The responsibilities of Cottle will include growing the new business of the company, making more partnerships and purchasing additional companies. Zynga has surely been targeting to hire Cottle for quite some time because it lost several of its acquisitions to him when he was still working for EA.

Mark Pincus, chief executive of Zynga, releases a statement about the hire saying that it is rare to find someone with a deep background in the operations side of the business while having a vision to project where the industry and the business are going. He says that Cottle is an example of these one-of-a-kind executives that is why Zynga is full of excitement when he joined it.

Pincus further adds that since Cottle has been handling the 2500-person Interactive department of EA, he has the perfect skills, experience, deep comprehension of technology, games and entertainment that will greatly help the company in quickly achieving their goal of linking the world via games. Finally, he emphasizes that Cottle is a man full of curiosity and humility who will truly fit the culture of Zynga.

Zynga is presently trading at $8.45 per share, a decrease from its original price of $10 per share.
