An upcoming update is set to be released to the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Lumia 800 Smartphones which will allow the two handsets from Nokia (NYSE:NOK) to offer internet tethering. The update will reportedly be available in certain countries and it will give the two Lumia phones from Nokia the capability of being used as Wi-Fi hotspots. However no specific details were made available by the company in connection to the supposed update for the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Lumia 800.
According to reports, the supposed tethering feature that for the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Lumia 800 will be released in Vietnam, the Netherlands and Belgium. The Chinese version of the Lumia 800 will reportedly receive the same update.
The launch date for the update has yet to be announced although reports have indicated that its release may be coming soon. Other reports have also indicated that the update will be released to all Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 units.
The hotspot feature for the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Lumia 800 was initially hinted by a spokesman last month although the company indicated that it may not be coming soon.
According to the spokesman from Nokia, the report referred to a future release of the update for the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Lumia 800 and the company cannot give any statements on the speculation that emerged due to the report. However the spokesman indicated that the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Lumia 800 will indeed receive the tethering feature although no other details are available for the moment.
Prior to the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Lumia 800, the Lumia 610 and the Lumia 900 already offer the tethering function out of the box. With this feature, users can use their handsets to provide internet access to a maximum of five devices that are Wi-Fi-enabled.
