Federal Managers to Replace Blackberry with Android Phones

BlackBerry is no longer the handset to get for federal managers. Latest research studies by the Government Business Council reveals that more and more managers are ditching their RIM BlackBerrys and are switching to Android phones. According to the research the BlackBerry use of managers has decreased from 77% from August 2009 to less than 50% in September 2011. This is posted on theNextgov, a government blog.

A recent poll discovered that Canadians are more eager on purchasing Samsung Phones and less attracted in owning a BlackBerry compared to last year. Together with an online survey of 46,000 Canadian respondents, Ipsos Reid’ senior vice-president Mary Beth Barbour said that the interest of consumers to purchase a BlackBerry has decreased to almost one-third compared with their interest in the previous year.

Lowell McAdam, the CEO of Verizon (NYSE:VZ), indicated that the BlackBerry platform of Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) will ultimately be surpassed by the Windows Phone 7 platform of Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT). McAdam revealed that the number of platforms for the smartphone in the market such as the Windows Phone 7 is limited although consolidation may happen in the future.
