Sony is thinking of boosting its line of mp3 players popularly known as Walkman by adding a new product. The device is called Walkman Z1000, the first ever music player to be powered by Android. With this new product, Sony is aiming to give Samsung and Apple a good competition.

Z1000 was first introduced in Japan last September. However, Sony executives found it a wise move to offer it to the United States market. Its display is sized at 4.3 inches which is a little bigger than the iPod Touch and the first version of the Samsung Galaxy Player but it compensates for its bigger size by offering additional functionality.

Aside from its usual features including downloading capabilities from the market of Android, the device consists of DLNA support in order for users to utilize media with their compatible televisions. As an alternative, it also has a microHDMI port for those with non-compatible television sets and an S-Master MX amplifier which is great in playing audio.

The latest Walkman product is interestingly designed with the two humps bound at the upper and lower parts located at the rear of the device. Not all users may like the bulk it brings to their pockets but its unique size makes it special and different as it ensures that it cannot be mistaken for a similar product by any of its competitors. Hopefully Sony already learned a lesson from the previous products it brought to the market such as the PRS-T1 e-reader, an exceptionally attractive device that suffered from its cheap feel.

The wait will soon be over for users who are excited and eager to own the Gingerbread-powered Walkman Z100. It is expected to be available by spring of 2012. It will be offered in 8 GB for $249, 16 GB for $279 and 32 GB for $329.
