Samsung Electronics is coming up with a new compact digital camera SH100 with WiFi support. As stated by the manufacturer, this new gadget will be its flagship model from among the ‘connected’ cameras by the company in 2011.
Owner of SH100 can synchronize it over Wi-Fi to smartphone Samsung Galaxy S, to use the phone’s screen as a viewfinder in real time. From your smartphone, you can also control the zoom, select the camera settings and remotely control the camera buttons. Now one can completely control the camera using smartphone, wherever the user is located. You can even use the GPS of smartphone to capture the geographic coordinates of the shooting location.
Wi-Fi support also lets you copy the images to a computer by pressing only two buttons. When PC Auto Back-up is activated, the camera automatically detects your computer and sends the last shot photos to it, even if the PC is turned off. This feature is compatible with Wake-on LAN, which is supported by many of today’s PCs.
Through Wi-Fi the camera owner can upload photos directly to social networking sites such as Facebook, Picasa and Photo Bucket, or send them to e-mail addresses. You can also take HD-video and post it to YouTube directly from your camera. To speed up the process of uploading large files, SH100 owners are given access to mobile services provider Boingo, which provides high speed Internet at more than 200 thousand Wi-Fi hotspots around the world.
Thanks to proprietary touch screen interface Smart Access, operating the camera has become very simple, as in many smartphones. Even very complicated operations like wireless transfer of content from camera can be activated by just a few touches on 3-inch display.
Wireless features of SH100 are supplemented by support for technology Samsung AllShare. Thanks to AllShare, users can easily transfer content from their camera to other gadgets in the home, compliant with DLNA standards, such as televisions.
The shipment of Samsung SH100 is expected to start somewhere in February or March this year and price may be around $ 199.99.
