Samsung May Produce Next Nexus Smartphone

Reports have hinted that the next Nexus smartphone may not be manufactured by Motorola (NYSE:MMI), which has reached a deal with Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) less than a year ago. It appears that Samsung may be producing the third smartphone that will feature the Android OS of Google. Although the source of the report is not quite consistent with its predictions, it seems that the South Korean company will be producing the next Nexus smartphone if the recent report is proven to be accurate.

The Nexus smartphones are designed to be the first devices to offer the next version of the Android OS and will be released without the customized user interface of the manufacturers.

The last Nexus smartphone that entered the market was the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which has become one of the more popular Android-powered devices following its release into the market. The next Nexus smartphone may be produced by Samsung as well. If reports are accurate, the next Nexus device may be produced by Samsung, which also manufactured the last two Nexus smartphones, the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus. The first Nexus smartphone was produced by HTC (TPE:2498).

According to the sources of the report, the success of the Galaxy Nexus and its other Android-powered devices made the South Korean company the practical choice in producing the next Nexus smartphone. The company also has the capability of supplying important components for the next Nexus smartphone.

This will leave Motorola out in the cold with the next Nexus smartphone despite reports that Google is aimed at acquiring the smartphone manufacturer. Although this may be a part of the plans of Google, some industry watchers are hoping that this will not lead to an ugly legal dispute.

However it remains to be seen if Google will indeed opt to let Samsung produce the next Nexus smartphone given the previous inconsistencies in the predictions made by the source of the reports.
