In February 2011, Samsung launched its Galaxy S II, a device consisting of a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display screen, an Android Gingerbread operating system and a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. Critics loved the handset and it was even recognized by some as the best smartphone to date. Engadget's Vlad Savov even emphasized that the handset might just be the best smartphone there is.
Currently, there is news that the new Samsung Galaxy S III will be launched in the latter parts of the year. Contrary to early rumors, it will not happen during the Mobile World Congress. Instead, it will be unveiled during a corporate event organized by Samsung itself.
In a statement gathered by TechRadar, Samsung representatives said that it is looking forward to introduce and demonstrate the new and exciting mobile device of the company during the Mobile World Congress in 2012. But, the Samsung Galaxy S2's successor will be launched separately in an event that will happen during the first semester of the year and close enough to the time when the product will be available commercially.
Samsung has kept its silence on the details of the new smartphone. But, it will surely have an upgraded Android version and some recent features. Adam Mills of Gotta Be Mobile also requests Samsung to make some improvements on the device in terms of its design.
Mills said that he is truly hoping that Samsung does not follow the same route it took in designing its Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy SII handsets. He added that it would be good to have some changes and discard the plastic. He further said that although it may cost more to make something new such as using aluminum, the phone has to blow away people's minds if its goal is to exceed the level of the Galaxy SII, iPhone 4S and most of all the upcoming iPhone 5.
