Nokia Files Charges Against HTC, RIM and Viewsonic

HTC Corp denies their alleged breach in the patent owned by the Finnish mobile manufacturing company, Nokia Corp. According to the Taiwanese corporation, it had permission to the wireless technology of Nokia since 2003. This reply from the company based on Taoyuan came the day after Nokia files its claims against HTC, Viewsonic Corp and RIM in United States and Germany. HTC shares have decreased at 4.34 % in the Taiwan Stock Exchange just recently.

The complaints of the Finnish company against HTC have reached the International Trade Commission (ITC) of the United States. Moreover, it has also filed several charges which include a lawsuit for Viewsonic and HTC in Delaware's Federal District Court, another against RIM and HTC in Dusseldorf's Regional Court and one more against HTC, RIM Ltd and Viewsonicin Mannheim and Munich's Regional Courts.

The website of Nokia stipulates that a total of 45 of its patents have been violated by these three companies. According to Louise Pentland,the company's legal officer, though they did not want to come up with court trials and hearings, they had to stop the unauthorized use of their intellectual properties.

HTC, which currently stands as the fifth best smartphone provider in the international market has been said to honor innovation and personal ideals. In a statement, Nokia said that they are going to defend their rights from Nokia with all their best.

The international smartphone industry has grown at 42.5 % every year. It grew to 144.9 million at the start of this year. According to the recent report of the IDC, Samsung Electronics Co ranks first with over 42.2 million shipments and a 29.1 % of the total market share in the industry.

Apple Inc has only placed second with 35.1 million shipments and a 24.4 % market share. Nokia stands in third place with 8.2 % market share and then RIM Blackberry follows suit with 6.7 % of the share.

HTC which is the fifth placer has only 4.8 % of the market share. According to experts it will be facing challenges in the US market since it is risking its whole future on its One X and S handsets.
