New AT&T Prepaid Smartphone with the Samsung Galaxy Appeal

Another prepaid smartphone was introduced by AT&T (NYSE:T) into its device lineup recently, the Samsung Galaxy Appeal. The device is the first side-sliding smartphone on the prepaid lineup of the mobile service provider and will be available by June 5 at Walmart at a price tag of around $150. AT&T stores will have the Samsung Galaxy Appeal on its store shelves by July 15.

The Samsung Galaxy Appeal will feature a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 800MHz processor, 3.2inch display screen and uses the Gingerbread Android OS. The prepaid slider also features a three-megapixel camera at the back with a 3x zoom and the capability of recording videos at 24 fps.

The 512MB internal memory of the Samsung Galaxy Appeal is expandable through a microSD memory card up to 32GB.

The upcoming prepaid offering of AT&T will be available through the GoPhone program of the mobile service provider which gives users a number of data plans to choose from. The 50MB data plan is at $5 per month, the 200MB data plan costs $15, while the 1GB data plan is at $25 each month.

The GoPhone plans for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Appeal also offers users a choice of the $50 Unlimited Talk and Text nationwide plan and the $25 Unlimited Text and 250 minutes nationwide plan.

In addition to the Samsung Galaxy Appeal, AT&T offers other device from the Galaxy series of Samsung including the Samsung Galaxy Note, the Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Tab.

The upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy Appeal comes prior to the US release of the Samsung Galaxy SIII, which is set to enter the European market by May 29. For the moment it remains uncertain which US mobile service provider will be offering the upcoming high-end smartphone in the Galaxy series of Samsung since none of the companies have made any announcements up to now.
