The Asus Padfone has been in the making for quite a long time. However, a report of Modaco's Paul O Brien' says that the final and ultimate design may actually be revealed during the Mobile World Congress on the 27th of February.

The Asus Padfone is considered as the first device of its kind. So far, it is the only innovation that lets the user dock their mobile handsets particularly their smartphone in a tablet docking accessory in order to have a bigger viewing area.

A lot of recent reports claim that the Padfone will have the Tegra 3 processor of Nvidia. However, the device was already seen with Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960) in several leaked benchmarks. The Verge's Sean Hollister supports and confirms the inclusion of the Snapdragon S4 processor in the prototype model that was presented at the Consumer Electronics Show.

All these can change since Asus is anticipated to launch a new design for the Padfone which will be different from the prototypes that have already been presented so far. This means that the tablet' physical appearance may change and there is a big possibility that its physical buttons will be removed because it is expected to have the Android 4.0 ICS OS.

An additional Padfone feature that will surely be interesting is its support for the keyboard dock of the Asus Transformer. The prototype model showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show, supported the TF101 dock which is an older type. However, the redesigned unit is expected to provide support for the latest TF201 docking station that functions with the Asus Transformer Prime.

In its entirety, the Asus Padfone appears to be a pretty special device that will surely grab attention with its one of a kind design. Its success or failure will be mostly dependent on the real retail costs of its accessories. Many are hoping that the prices will stay below $150 just like the Transformer Prime's mobile docking station.
