Multi-Point Focus Camera May Be Integrated into the iPhone 5

Numerous reports have emerged in connection to the upcoming iPhone 5. The latest report is connected to the camera of the next generation iPhone of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). According to reports, the upcoming camera of the iPhone 5 will feature a multi-point focusing system. In addition to the upcoming iPhone 5, the system may also be integrated into the iPod Touch and the iPad.

The reported multi-point focusing system that may be used on the iPhone 5 camera was hinted in a patent that was awarded to Apple recently. The patent hints at the need for an image processor which has the capability of tracking continuously regions of interest that are defined by the user. This is done through a combination of auto focusing technology and live image processing. Although the iPhone 4S has an auto-focus tech, the supposed camera that will be integrated into the iPhone 5 will not be restricted to face detection or center-weighting. Instead it will select the best combination of camera setting that will offer the best clarity in different selected areas.

A dedicated chip will be utilized in processing raw sensor data since it will require a good amount of processing power. The chip will also control the operation of the camera. The patent also shows that the company is making huge improvements on the mobile camera design of the 8MP camera of the iPhone 4S.

The images that will be produced by the camera that will reportedly be used on the iPhone 5 will be among the best in the market.

For the moment it remains uncertain if the upcoming camera technology will be used on the iPhone 5 although it is a possibility before the device is released into the market.
