Major League Baseball Gets Underway This Thursday

It is that time of the year for when the grass starts getting cut, the weather starts getting warmer, and those oh so refreshing smells of spring. Another thing that comes with that is baseball and that means that the 2011 Major League Baseball season gets underway this Thursday.

2011 marks a change for Major League Baseball and with the opening day being on Thursday, it is going away from the tradition of having the first games being played on Monday which has been the custom for years. Still, the 2011 Major League Baseball season looks to be a good one and can certainly set itself up to be a memorable one.

The new Thursday format will also copy the traditional Monday starting of games as there will be some teams who will not get underway until Friday. Three teams for certain that this will happen to are the Seattle Mariners, the New York Mets, and the Tampa Bay Rays. This new season though is certainly setting itself up to be a banner season. The main reason for this is the pending litigation that is going on in the NFL.

If the National Football League does not play their season this year and that certainly could be the case, the sporting world will focus entirely on the Major League Baseball season which in turn could mean higher ratings for Major League Baseball.

The San Francisco Giants are the defending World Series Champions and they done that in dominating fashion over the Texas Rangers last year. This season though could be different with several big time players being on different teams and a new crop of young players making their debuts. The 2011 Major League Baseball season starts on Thursday, April, 1st and it certainly could shape up to be a good one.
