An internal video that showed a Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) executive revealing the future of the Windows Phone to Nokia (NYSE:NOK) has reportedly revealed the details of the upcoming Windows Phone 8 of Microsoft. This video provided a first look at the Windows Phone 8 and its close links to the Windows 8 OS for desktops. It also revealed that some apps will be functional on a computer and a smartphone.
Near field communications or NFC technology will reportedly be included on the Windows Phone 8 platform which would allow users to pay for their purchases by simply waving the smartphone in the direction of an NFC-capable register. Data can also be shared between smartphones that are feature the NFC technology.
The DataSmart live tile is another feature that will come with the Windows Phone 8. This Windows Phone 8 application allows users to manage the data they are using and will always utilize a Wi-Fi connection as its first choice to allow users to save on their phone bills.
The next versions of the Windows Phone will reportedly be codenamed Apollo and Tango with the former anticipated to be released neat the end of the year. The Windows Phone platform was the replacement of the Windows Mobile platform more than a year ago.
The replacement came as a reaction to the increase in the popularity of the Android smartphone and the iPhone of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL).
Some industry watchers have indicated that the design of the Windows Phone 8 may have been expanded to the size used on a computer for the Windows 8 OS. The Windows 8 is the next version of the operating system for tablets, laptops and PCs of Microsoft.
The release schedule for the Windows Phone 8 will reportedly be similar to that of the Windows 8OS as it will have the capability of integrating with the desktop version of the platform.
It is also possible that the apps that will be developed for the PC will have a similar code as the ones used for the smartphones which would increase the number of apps available for the Windows Phone 8 platform.
