It appears that the iPod Nano of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) may feature a camera at the rear portion of the device where the clip is positioned on the device. This was revealed through an image that was posted recently on a Japanese blog focused on Apple products.
However this is not the only instance that an image of the device featuring a camera was posted on the net since another image was posted last year showing the iPod Nano featuring a camera. But the image posted last April showed the rear of a hollowed-out casing made of aluminum.
The latest images appear to show the external part of the iPod Nano along with a somewhat finished version of the device.
An iPod Nano that featured a camera which offer the recording of videos was offered by Apple for some time before it was taken out after the touchscreen model came out since it apparently did not have enough space.
Industry watchers have also noted that a patent was filed by Apple sometime in 2009 which showed a touchscreen version of the iPod Nano with an integrated camera, which is similar to the unit on the images that were posted recently.
The integration of the camera will likely result to a number of other features that will be included on the device such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity to allow the iPod Nano to connect to the iCloud service of Apple. The Photo Stream was introduced by Apple into the service last year which allow users to sync around 1,000 images with other devices. This may give indications that the upcoming iPod Nano will come with some sort of wireless connectivity feature.
The launch of the next version of the iPod remains uncertain as the iPod Nano was not updated last year. The price for the iPod Nano and the iPod Touch was reduced last year although the Nano received a software update that increased the number of virtual watch faces on the device aside from some modifications on the user interface.
No new iPod Nano models were released last year even though the sales of the device were gradually decreasing as the iPad and iPhone sales increased.
