An exclusive media event was scheduled by HTC (TPE:2498) on September 20 where a number smartphones may be officially launched by the company. Among the smartphones that the company will likely introduce is the HTC Vigor or what some observers consider as the HTC Thunderbolt 2.
The HTC Vigor or HTC Thunderbolt is a 4G LTE smartphone that is anticipated to become a part of the lineup of Verizon (NYSE:VZ) within the year. A document that reportedly was leaked from Verizon has suggested that it will be marketed as the HTC Thunderbolt 2 to replace the initial LTE offering of the company.
Observers indicate that the HTC Vigor or HTC Thunderbolt 2 may feature a 4.3-inche display screen with touch screen capabilities and a resolution of 1280 by 720. It will reportedly utilize the Gingerbread Android OS with the HTC Sense 3.5 user interface.
The HTC Vigor or HTC Thunderbolt 2 will also have the capability of utilizing a 4G LTE network and will feature a 1.5 GHz dual-core microprocessor, 1GB RAM and an internal storage of 16GB. A 2MP camera will be featured in front of the camera while an 8MP camera will be at its back.
Despite the appeal of the HTC Vigor or HTC Thunderbolt 2 observers have indicated that consumers will still eye the upcoming Apple iPhone 5 once it is released into the market.
Although an official press image will be released soon, the specific details of the price tag and the actual release schedule for the HTC Vigor or HTC Thunderbolt 2 remains to be seen.
Observers have speculated that the smartphone may have a price tag of around $250 or even $300 due to the 4G LTE capability of the HTC Vigor or HTC Thunderbolt 2. This price tag may include a two-year service contract. The Droid Bionic of Motorola was offered recently at $300 with the standard two-year contract.
With the upcoming crop of smartphone that will have 4G LTE capabilities, observers are speculating on whether the HTC Vigor or HTC Thunderbolt 2 will have good market share once it enters the smartphone market.
