Application on the Google TV was updated recently by Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) which added a recommendations system similar to the one used on Netflix. According to a spokesman from YouTube, the updated version of the app was released recently and all users of the Google TV will be able to use it soon.
Once the update app is launched on Google TV, viewers will be requested to rate a number of television shows and movies in order to create a baseline rating. Each movie and television show can be rated by the Google TV users at any time and users can also use the information on the shows being watched by the users as the basis for the recommendations.
A trending list is also available for Google TV users who are undecided on the videos they want to watch. The list will shows users what are considered as must-watch videos by other users. However users will have to opt in if they want to have the trending list. It will be necessary for users to select the shows they want Google TV through the updated app since this information will not be known unless the users select it through the app.
Other options available to users through the update d app is browsing through shows on live TV and pre-recording television shows and movies. Since Google does not know if users have subscriptions to some online services, it offers information on which shows or movies are available through services such as HBO according to the Youtube spokesman.
The Honeycomb update was released for Google TV last fall while the Android Market or Google Play was also added into the platform.
The Google TV service is currently enjoying the commitment of Vizio, Samsung, and LG. This comes as the Logitech Revue was met by a not-so-impressive response from the market.
