Google Nexus Tablet May Be Unveiled Within the Year

Talks about a possible Google Nexus Tablet have emerged recently although it has been overwhelmed by the coverage on the next version of the iPad of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). The upcoming Google Nexus Tablet will reportedly be produced by Asus (TPE:2357), which some industry watchers found worthy of note since Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) would normally opt to have Samsung manufacture its Android reference devices.

Aside from Asus being selected to produce the tablet offering of Google, the features of the device have also grabbed the attention of industry watchers. The Google Nexus Tablet will reportedly feature a seven-inch display screen with a 1280 by 800 resolution and a quad-core Tegra 3 processor. The upcoming device will also feature the Android 4.0 OS without any customizations from the manufacturer.

The Google Nexus Tablet will also have a price tag of around $199, which puts it at the price level of the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire.

Although the price tag is considered quite assertive for some observers, Asus has reportedly unveiled the Asus MeMo during the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year which had similar features and will be priced at around $249. For the moment the release date for the Google Nexus Tablet remains uncertain although Nexus devices are normally released by Google during the I/O conference.

The next thing to consider is the capability of the Google Nexus Tablet in competing against the Amazon Kindle Fire. It will be necessary for the developers to provide the ecosystem for the device. Developers are expected to get their hands on the Google Nexus Tablet during the I/O Conference, which would provide them the opportunity of creating apps for the device.

The $200 price tag on the Google Nexus Tablet is going to turn heads among consumers especially since it features a quad-core processor.

Although the Android Market already has numerous apps, it remains to be seen if this would help the upcoming Google Nexus Tablet perform well in the market.
