There is a possibility that the Amazon Kindle may be offered for free before the year ends according to Kevin Kelly of Wired. In a blog post on February 25, he indicated that the price of the Amazon Kindle has gone down since 2009.

For two years, the price of the Amazon Kindle has dropped from the $350 price tag in February 2009 to the current tag price of the Wi-Fi version at $139. The increasing popularity of the iPad of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and other e-readers such as the Nook of Barnes & Noble (NYSE:BKS) may have contributed to this huge drop in the price of the Amazon Kindle.

According to Kelly other people have also noticed the decrease in the price of the Amazon Kindle with John Walkenbach giving the same forecast of a free Amazon Kindle before the year ends.  Kelly also indicated that Jeff Bezos of Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) coyly remarked that Kelly noticed the decrease in the price of the Amazon Kindle after Kelly inquired about it.

Although the reply was no indication of a free Amazon Kindle, Kelly is convinced that offering the Kindle for free is compatible with the need to maintain customer satisfaction by Bezos.

However Jay Yarow of Business Insider does not believe it will happen. Although he believes that the company will give huge discounts on the Amazon Kindle to Amazon Prime clients. These clients are presently paying $79  for a video streaming service similar to Netflix together with a two-day shopping free of charge.

For Kelly, an $80 annual payment for a free Amazon Kindle with free movies and charge-free shipping may be available in the future. He also indicates a low-cost offering for the Amazon Kindle before the holidays come in.
