A recent announcement from Dell has introduced its first ultrabook offering, the upcoming XPS 13. This has turned the heads of a number of observers since this is the first foray of the company into the ultrabook market. The 13-inch XPS 13, which looks similar to the MacBook Air of Apple, has a thickness of around eighteen millimeters at most and weighs around 1.35 kilograms.
The battery life of the XPS 13 of Dell is about eight hours. The upcoming XPS 13 of Dell will feature the Core i7 processor from Intel with an integrated HD3000 graphics from Intel and a backlight keyboard. Consumers can opt to have the 128GB SSD or a 256GB SSD models of the upcoming XPS 13 from Dell.
The XPS 13 does not appear as ostentatious as the other consumer laptop offerings of Dell since the device is reportedly designed to be a consumer laptop that can be utilized by business users. According to Dell, the device will form part of the company’s Consumerization Ecosystem which makes the line between professional and consumer laptops indistinct.
The upcoming ultrabook offering of Dell is smaller than a good number of 13-inch devices in the market as the company revealed that the ultrabook is a 13-inch device inside the body of a 12-inch laptop.
The design of the XPS 13 of Dell is similar to the Latitude series of the company. It also features a Gorilla Glass protection on top of the screen and a big-sized click pad. The XPS 13 ultrabook also features a 4GB RAM, webcam and USB 3.0 port. Even though Dell may have entered the ultrabook market late, some observers also noted that the company was a pioneer in such laptop designs following the release of the Adamo and the Adamo XPS some years ago.
The XPS 13 ultrabook of Dell will reportedly become available by February or March and will have a price tag of around $999. However it may be possible for prices to go down following some comments of the high prices of the devices.
