Device Prototypes with BlackBerry 10 Released by RIM

Two thousand device prototypes using the BlackBerry 10 will reportedly be released by Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) to help increase support from software developers. These prototypes with the latest BlackBerry 10 will be released by the company near the early part of May according to reports.

According to the developer relations vice president of RIM, Alec Saunders, the company will be releasing around 2,000 BlackBerry 10-powered devices during the upcoming BlackBerry Jam conference of the company, which is set to be held near the start of May in Orlando. The release of this number of devices with the BlackBerry 10 software is a significant move for the company.

This reflects the development made by the company is ultimately releasing the device, Saunders added. He also revealed that the BlackBerry 10 device that will be released to developers will have a different design as compared to the final product that will enter the market.

The prototype will allow software developers to create applications for future devices that will use the software. The software used on the BlackBerry 10 devices will be the same as what is on the BlackBerry PlayBook of the company.

Although the number of applications for the BlackBerry PlayBook is already around ten thousand, its sales were less than impressive. These applications can also be ported into BlackBerry 10 device.

An earlier announcement by the company revealed that it will release new smartphones using the latest software within the year.

It is essential for RIM to be able to release an impressive product sine its market share has gradually been taken by Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). The upcoming BlackBerry 10 software may be the final opportunity of RIM to be able to release a product that can compete against the products of its rivals.

RIM may not be able to catch up with its competitors if it will continue to remain outside of the market with its upcoming BlackBerry 10 software.
