Apple IPad Mini Offers Same Resolution at a Cheaper Price

Recent reports have indicated that the iPad mini of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will feature the same resolution as the full-sized version of the device although it will cost less and will come with a smaller storage space compared to its bigger brother. The price range of the reported iPad mini will reported be from $200 up to $250, which is at least $150 cheaper compared to the entry-level model of the full-sized 16GB iPad. 

However it would overlap the price tag of the iPod Touch of Apple which has a price tag of at least $199. It appears that the iPad mini will only come with an 8GB internal memory, which is half the storage capacity of the entry-level model of the iPad. Despite this the screen resolution of the iPad mini will still be at 2048 x 1536.

With the iPad mini maintaining the same resolution as the regular-sized iPad indicates that the company aims to maintain the retina display of its iOS devices. The retina display of the device will keep the pixels closely packed that it will not be easy to differentiate one pixel from another while looking at the display.

The 2048 x 1536 resolution of the seven-inch iPad mini would also mean that there would be 326 pixels per inch on its display, which is similar to the PPI of the iPhone and the iPod Touch and higher than the 264 PPI of the latest version of the iPad.

However some issues may be encountered with the combination of the higher screen resolution and the smaller internal storage when it comes to media-rich games and HD content. Numerous 1080p movies found on iTunes occupy at least 4GB each while some games have increased their since ever since the new iPad entered the market.

Apple may allow the content to be streamed from the iCloud instead of downloading it into the iPad mini in order to deal with this particular issue.

Other reports have also suggested that the iPad mini may be released by Apple within the year with one website hinting of a third quarter release of the device although this remains to be seen.
