Acer (TPE:2353) introduced its latest product offering at an event held in Taiwan recently, the Acer Iconia Smartphone. The latest device was initially announced by the company during the MWC last February before its recent launch in Taiwan.

Reports have indicated that the hardware of the Acer Iconia Smart remains the same although it will be utilizing the Android 2.3 OS. According to some observers, the latest Acer offering may not have a lot of direct rivals in its category as some have considered the device as a hybrid tablet.

The screen size of the Acer Iconia Smart is at 4.8 inches and it has a resolution of 1024 by 480 and an aspect ratio of 21:9.

The Acer Iconia Smart is thinner compared to the Galaxy S2 of Samsung (SEO:005930) even though it appears to be bigger than the tablet offering of the Korean-based company. The Acer Iconia Smart is also considered lighter than some of its rivals like the Dell Streak despite its 185 g weight.

This latest offering from Acer is also considered by some observers to be quite portable in comparison to some of its competition.

Despite some of these positive points, the Acer Iconia Smart does not offer much with regard to its features since the device only utilizes a 1GHz single-core microprocessor from Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) aside from the 512MB RAM, which is considered by some observers to be the average specifications in devices similar to the Acer Iconia Smart.

The device also features an 8GB internal storage, 8MP primary camera which is capable of recording 720p videos, and a 2MP secondary camera. The Acer Iconia smart also features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity as well as USB and micro HDMI ports.

Reports have indicated that the Acer Iconia Smart will be available at around $510 although the actual release date of the device remains unannounced.
