Although the 2012 Consumer Electronic Show may be the last major keynote and presence of Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), the company has made two announcements in connection to the Windows Phone. The upcoming Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC Titan 2, which feature 4G LTE technology, were considered as the best smartphones at the CES. However, industry watchers have indicated that the upcoming Nokia Lumia 900 as the best among the devices at the event.

The Windows Phone OS was initially unveiled during the CES last year which modified the entire Windows Mobile OS completely. Despite being considered notable by a number of industry watchers for its uncomplicated interface and distinctive design, the hardware for the Windows Phone OS was lacking. The OS lacked a number of features including a landscape mode, multi-tasking, absence of copy and paste function, and a small number of apps for users to enjoy.

However it appears that things are currently going right for the Windows Phone OS as the Windows Phone Mango update will be released by fall which addresses a number of issues on the software while the hardware is also being enhanced along with an increase in the number of apps for the OS.

The success of the upcoming Nokia Lumia 900 is important for the Windows Phone since this is a major re-entry of Nokia into the market in the United States. According to the Windows Phone senior product manager, Greg Sullivan, Microsoft was successful at some point during the CES, which is important for Microsoft and the Windows Phone.

Aside from working with the OEM partners in producing smartphones, the company is also working on some issues that it needs to address.

Among the mobile service providers, AT&T (NYSE:T) has become the best partner of Microsoft as it has offered the most number of Windows Phone units and it will also offer the upcoming Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC Titan 2. In second place is T-Mobile, which Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and Sprint (NYSE:S) are only offering one Windows Phone smartphone. It will be necessary for Microsoft to work on its sales to be able to get a bigger share of the market.

Recent reports have revealed that sales associates from AT&T will get a commission for the sales of Windows Phone units although this remains to be seen as AT&T has not made any statement on the report.
